Safety and Security Declarations
When commercial goods are not covered by a customs declaration, a safety and security declaration (SSD) may be required. This allows safety and security checks to be performed on all goods exiting or entering a port.
There are two types of SSD:
- Exit Summary Declaration (EXS): Covers exports and is primarily used for goods moving under transit via the UK or for goods that have been in temporary storage for more than 14 days.
- Entry Summary Declaration (ENS): Covers imports and is usually raised by the Carrier or Shipper through their booking system by entering the details requested. However, it can also be raised by a representative.
As a representative, we can raise ENS for goods arriving into France, Spain, Republic of Ireland, and Northern Ireland. Note: UK ENS’s are not required until the end of October 2024.
